About Me

Hey everyone!
My name is Nate Thomas. Growing up in school, I could never really get myself into enjoying science, or math, or social studies. But what I always excelled in and enjoyed doing was creating art and creating music.
I started really getting into drawing when I was around 6 years old, when I was burning out my copy of Spider-Man (2002), trying to recreate the drawing that Peter Parker creates for his iconic suit. From there, I continued to draw, trying to get better. With all my art classes throughout school, I tried different mediums, and continued to explore what I could do. I sold my first piece entitled “The Batman” when I was in grade 10, which can be seen in the “My Art” section of my site. I also made a 2 piece painting, called “Spidey VS Venom”, which sold at the Medicine Hat Sun Devils silent auction fundraiser in 2014, earning the club $200+ on the sale. On top of painting on canvases, I have also been painting some of my guitars, which I have had some great comments about. More recently, I have really gotten into designing goalie masks, having designed both my masks that I wore playing for the Medicine Hat Sun Devils lacrosse club, with the last one also being installed by myself.
I have always been a music fan, and music was all around me. I went to my first ever concert when I was 7, when I went to see Nickelback on the “All the Right Reasons” tour. I began singing around that time also, entering into a talent show at my school and being awarded first place. When I was around 14, I began to play guitar, and at 15, I was in my first band, Bliss, as the drummer, having never had a drum lesson in my life. Around that same time, I met my best friend, and we began a band named Sydeshow. That band recorded 3 EP’s, with another 4 singles, played at the Esplanade in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and played their biggest show to a crowd of nearly 1,500 people in 2015. During the times of guitar lessons, I was introduced to recording and sound engineering through my guitar teacher, who taught us out of his personal studio. From there, I began exploring recording on my own, and found myself committed to the University of Lethbridge and their Digital Audio Arts program in the Fall of 2015. I still have the band with my friend, which is now called Reckless Renegade, where he and I both self engineered and produced our first single, “My Ex-Girlfriend”. I also began composing film scores during my time at the UofL, and in the summer of 2018, was asked permission to use a project of mine for Rolf Boon’s upcoming textbook on film scoring. In 2019, I, along with partners, had a research paper published by the Audio Engineering Society, and the paper was presented by myself in New York the same year. I recently worked the control board during the 2020 AES Fest in Lethbridge, Alberta, where I operated live sound for acts Ryland Moranz, Waterfront, Stefan Palm and Biloxi Parish. I graduated from the University of Lethbridge with my undergraduate degree in Digital Audio Arts in the spring of 2020.
Whether it is art or music (or both) that you come to me for, you can have comfort in knowing that I am passionate in what I do, and will work with you to bring your ideas to life. I cannot wait to work with you.
Nate.
